• Non-social democratic left-wing parties have struggled to adjust to the new world, and their pacifist discourse often seems disconnected from contemporary reality
• The partial invasion of Ukraine, and Trump's attitudes, prove the need to reconsider some concepts of pacifism
• The rejection of NATO no longer has the same significance it did in 1986
• The current need to defend Europe arises from an illegal and illegitimate invasion of Ukraine
• The Atlantic Alliance and the belief of almost the entire EU allows us to harbor hope that a sovereign country will not be another victim of the new society of mutual interests established by Trump and Putin
• While tackling the new reality, it's important to not have an uncritical attitude or renounce maintaining the Welfare State

Conclusion: Preaching unilateral disarmament against imperialism can be counterproductive in the long run. It takes courage to present to the electorate and the Spanish society the harsh geopolitical reality that Europe faces today, not the world of 40 years ago.
