• Since 2023, the Canary Islands have been experiencing unsustainable demographic pressure due to the vast number of irregular immigrants risking their lives to travel from Africa to Europe.
• In response to complaints from local authorities, the Council of Ministers passed a decree allowing for the redistribution of immigrant minors, currently in reception centers in the Canary Islands and Ceuta, to other autonomous communities.
• Conservatives have protested that Madrid and Andalucía will be the main receivers of these minors.
• Until now, acceptance of immigrant minors has been voluntary and Catalonia and the Basque Country have shown greater solidarity than Madrid and Andalucía.
• Negotiations between socialists and separatists is a labor of attrition to the Government, according to the PP.

Conclusion: This change in immigration policy is a positive step towards relieving the demographic pressure in Canary Islands, but it has created political tensions and divisions among autonomous communities.
